RF/IR SHIELDING FOR SCIF
A SCIF, or Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (pronounced “skiff”), is a U.S. Department of Defense term for a secure room. It can be a secure room, building or data center that guards against electronic surveillance and suppresses data leakage of sensitive security and military information. SCIFs are used to deny unauthorized personnel, such as foreign intelligence services or corporate spies, the opportunity for undetected entry into facilities for the exploitation of sensitive activities.

SCIFs are rooms, floors, or buildings that are used to process classified information. These spaces have taken exceptional precautions to prevent the loss of data by protecting against physical, cyber and technical means. There have been directives created to help in the construction of a SCIF. One of these guidelines is called ICD-705. It provides an overview of the construction goals and methodologies that must be used in the construction of a SCIF.

Previously, if a SCIF contained a window, it was laminated with heavy copper meshes and did not reject InfraRed signals now required.
