A SCIF, or Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (pronounced “skiff”), is a term used by the U.S. Department of Defense to refer to a secure room. This can include secure rooms, buildings, or data centers designed to protect against electronic surveillance and prevent the leakage of sensitive security and military information. SCIFs are established to prevent unauthorized individuals, such as foreign intelligence agents or corporate spies, from gaining undetected access to facilities where sensitive activities are conducted.
